POTENTIALITY
A plain piece of wood is at its highest point of potentiality before it is touched by human hands. It can become anything you can envision. You can carve it into a bowl of a cup to manifest its potential for utility. You can also carve it into a statue or an ornament to express its potential for beauty.
Newborns are like the plain piece of wood. They have the potential to become anything. They can develop their abilities for various professions. They can also develop their talents to express creativity. The professional and artistic sides need not be mutually exclusive; sometimes they are one and the same.
You are no longer a newborn, but your spiritual self is at its highest point of potentiality right now with respect to the years ahead of you, Your future is like the plain piece of wood. You can shape it into anything you want. Perhaps the life you live will be celebrated for its contributions to humanity; perhaps it will be admired for its aesthetic elegance. Anything is possible, because you possess unlimited potentiality in the present moment.
The Tao Today
Provisions yourself with the right tools when you start transforming you potentiality into reality. Attempting to carve a wooden figurine with a spoon will lead to poor results and frustration. Similarly, trying to shape your destiny without the Tao will lead to results that are less than satisfactory. Think about the life you want, and then gather the spiritual tools you will need to make it happen.
